View Behind Horse Racing FieldHeading into August, the majority of the big summer racing meetings are all done and dusted for another year. Last but certainly not least though we have the Sussex showpiece of Glorious Goodwood. Whilst this meeting may not have the pomp and pageantry of Royal Ascot, or the classic prestige of the Derby meeting, it does have the beautiful backdrop of the Sussex countryside, excellent prize money and more Panama hats than you can shake a stick at.

There are of course also many racing highlights over the course of the meeting, with the purists likely to point to the Sussex Stakes as being the pick of the Group contests. The scene of majestic performances from the likes of Frankel and Brigadier Gerard over the years, it’s not for nothing that the race is renowned as one of the top one-mile contests of the entire year. With the heart pounding drama of the Goodwood Cup thrown into the mix, not to mention the sheer spectacle of the cavalry charge that is the closing days Stewards’ Cup handicap, there’s never a dull moment at Glorious Goodwood.

That’s to mention only a handful of the 35 contests on offer over the five days of this exhilarating racing rollercoaster. For many racing fans, this is the best of the summer flat festivals bar none.
